Ethiopian Statistical Development Program
Ethiopia’s Ten-Year Development Plan (2021-2030) outlines a comprehensive national development vision, emphasizing effective planning, monitoring, and evaluation (PME) systems that integrate significant amounts of official statistics at various levels. The Ethiopian Statistical Development Program (ESDP), part of the Homegrown Economic Reform II, aims to enhance the production and use of statistical data to meet diverse user needs. Developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Planning and Development and Ethiopian Statistical Services, the ESDP focuses on modernizing statistical frameworks, improving data management, and fostering capacity-building. Key expected outcomes by 2025 include rebased national GDP, improved consumer price index (CPI), and enhanced multidimensional poverty index (MPI), which will support fiscal reforms, resource allocation, and development coordination. Effective implementation of the ESDP relies on strategic resource mobilization and coordination at all levels, leveraging domestic finances and development partner support.
